To Mr. Bobby Ham, A Time for Science Nature and Science Learning Center is neighbor to your fields in southern Pitt County near the juncture of Contentnea and Little Contentnea Creeks, having purchased several sections of land from Graham Mills. We serve over 15,000 student-participants each year through field-trips and other activities to provide hands on activities and experiences in the realm of environment/nature and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) activities. Many of our participating students are looking for volunteer activities for their graduation or scholarship requirements. I have followed the progress of your sweet-potato fields in the vicinity of Hanrahan Road and Pleasant Plain Roads and it appears that your harvesting activities have been completed. Since my wife and I also support a couple of food banks and soup kitchens both here in Pitt County and in the Mountains in Watauga County, I was wondering if, with your approval, and through A Time for Science we could arrange a gleaning effort among student groups to glean these fields in order to harvest and provide left-over sweet potatoes to these organizations? I would also like to invite you to browse our website to see what all we do for over 20 counties in eastern NC with the land we have acquired and see if you might have an interest in supporting our educational/recreational mission to any greater extent. Please feel free to contact me in any way you are comfortable and I would be happy to show you even more about A Time for Science. And, by the way, I do like your "Best Yam Vodka." Thanks, John T.
